MIAMI -- A man who hijacked an airliner from the U.S. to Cuba almost two
decades ago is due back in a Miami federal courtroom on Wednesday.

William Potts is scheduled to enter a plea to air piracy charges and
seek release on bail. Federal prosecutors oppose bail, contending that
Potts is a risk to flee and is potentially dangerous.

The 56-year-old Potts returned from Cuba last week to face U.S. justice.
Potts could get between 20 years and life in prison, but is seeking
credit for the 13 years he already spent in Cuban prison for the hijacking.

The FBI says Potts claimed to have explosives aboard the New
York-to-Miami flight in 1984, demanding that it be diverted to Havana.
Potts described himself then as a black militant.
