Cuba to assemble Russian minibuses

Cuba to assemble Russian minibuses

CUBA STANDARD — Cuba will begin assembly of minibuses, using chassis and
other components from Russia's GAZ Group.

Nizhny Novgorod-based GAZ will deliver 330 PAZ-32053 chassis to the
island by the end of this year, the company said in a press release. GAZ
said it has already delivered 210 of the PAZ chassis to Cuba and plans
to deliver 120 more by the end of the year.

The Cuban model based on the PAZ chassis will be called Diana. A Cuban
state company will provide warranty and maintenance of the buses; GAZ
will supply spare parts.

CAISA, a subsidiary of state company Grupo Unecamoto, assembles
minibuses in a joint venture with Brazil's Busscar at Guanajay, in
suburban Havana.

Cuban mechanics and engineers are familiar with the technology. Using a
similar, Soviet-designed chassis, a Cuban state company and the
predecessor of GAZ Group assembled 15,000 Girón minibuses in the 1970s
on the island.

The Cuba agreement is part of a GAZ Group export expansion.
